Boyd was a standout wide receiver for the Hornets in 2009. He led the team with 33 catches, 549 receiving yards, and tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions with seven. His leaping catch in the endzone gave the Hornets a dramatic 30-27 double-overtime win over Collins Hill in the first round of the Class-AAAAA State Playoffs in November.

On Wednesday, Roswell's Chris Boyd was gracious enough to lend some of his time on the morning of National Signing Day to talk with the Neighbor about his time as a Hornet, the recruiting process, and his future as a wide receiver in the Southeastern Conference.

Boyd, 6-5 and 195 lbs., is a 3-star recruit per Rivals.com, and was a 1st Team All-Neighbor selection at wideout after catching 33 passes for 549 yards and seven touchdowns in 2009.

How relieving is it to be done with the recruiting process?

Well, it feels great...now I see why waking up at 6:30 in the morning and coming to workouts, I see what it really does. I mean, it's a great feeling. I'm glad I have this chance, and I want to make the most of it now. The work's just beginning. I know I've gotta get up there and play hard, because everybody up there is gonna be good. So I gotta go up there and show them what I have.

Does it seem surreal?

Yeah, I still have little butterflies in my stomach, but it's a great feeling. I love it.

What was your thought process when Georgia Tech made a late scholarship offer? Why did you decide to ultimately stick with Vanderbilt?

Well, when Tech offered me, of course I was ecstatic because they're one of the big in-state schools, so I was excited about that. I planned on taking a visit down there. I talked to [Tech coach] Paul Johnson and everything a few times. He came to school. And as the week went by, I started thinking about the relationships I'd built with the coaching staff at Vanderbilt over the last two years. They're just great guys and we'd been through a lot. And they were actually the first school to start recruiting me anyway. It made me feel really good and I was like, I don't want to go to Tech. I don't want to confuse myself. So, I was pretty excited about Vanderbilt and that's why I decided to stick with them.

What are you expecting, to be at Vanderbilt and playing in the SEC?

Well Nashville's a great town. I know I'm gonna have a lot of fun there. But on the football side, I'll be playing in the best conference...so it's definitely going to be a challenge, but I think if I go in there and work hard, I think I'll be good.

What are some of your memories from Roswell and what you like most about the school?

Well, Roswell's a great school, academically and athletically. My teachers here have gotten me ready for the next level, which is college, so that's a great thing. I really respect all my teachers, and the administration and coaching staff here are just outstanding. They support the football program so much. I just loved it here at Roswell. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

What do you want to say to the people that helped you get to this point?

Well, I just want to say thank you to them, because without them I wouldnt be here right now. Without the administration, my teammates, and my family - most of all - without them I wouldn't be here. And I just want to say thank you to everybody.

Boyd plans to major in business or communications at Vanderbilt.
